For a person to significantly understand this distinction they almost certainly will need to go through a lot of personal practice in developing a sensitivity to the different energies that they are comprised of.
That said, there are plenty of things to look for:
Ego will usually act with a lot of attitude, while soul or intuition will feel much less judgmental.
Ego wishes to create separation, while soul and intuition are more about connectivity.
Ego will create a story for you to listen to rather than dealing with the present moment—reality. Story meaning, some sort of false reality, of “how things should be”, rather than what “is”.
Soul, and intuition will remain non-judgmental and more focused on the present moment.
Ego is much more fear based, while soul and intuition have little to no fear. They understand connectivity, and don’t view things as having ends. Death is not an ending, it is a transition just like anything else.
To learn to use a more soul and intuition based decision making process involves developing a sensitivity to these different aspects of yourself. To empower soul and intuition, make your intent to move towards unconditional love, and connectivity. Involve it in your life and it will begin to manifest.
Some believe in killing the ego, but the ego can be a great reference tool for this society. Without the ego it can be very difficult to interact with other people. For that reason it can be more functional to disconnect your ego as a conscious governing body, and simply use it as a tool when needed.
It disconnects when you as a whole recognize what ego is, and release it all through choosing not to live through that illusion.
Just like anything in life, explaining to the ego, teaching it, and moving on gracefully, will involve less struggle, than threatening it, fighting it, and trying to kill it. Plus, such divisiveness may perpetuate ego through your desire to separate from it.
